Game Making Software

I like to learn as much as I can about many different ways of making games. To keep things organized for myself, and for others who may be interested in my game development, I will use this page to list off game development software that I have used. My brief descriptions here are pertaining specifically to my personal experience using the software, so they are not objective reports of the quality of the software. Feel free to grab the link and test it out for yourself and see how you feel about it -- this webpage exists solely for providing cool resources.

Unity

It's Unity. It's complicated, but there are a lot more tutorials out there for Unity than there are for some simpler engines, which makes the overall learning experience much better. I really enjoy the built-in aspects of Unity, such as things like physics. I hope to learn more about using Unity, but it feels as though there is an infinite amount of stuff to learn, and that intimidates me.

Twine

I love Twine. It's a great way to create a text-based game within a browser, which is sometimes all that you need. If I have an idea for an experience that I want someone to have, my first thought is whether or not it can be created within Twine. Faithful in its simplicity, with many cool tricks I still have yet to learn, Twine is great for a quick game or getting all of those creative juices condensed into something tangible.

Phaser

My experience with Phaser comes from a brief set of weeks in which two of my classes involved making games with the software. However, I was suffering due to the pandemic at the time, and as such I do not have quite as much to say about this software as I would have liked. Despite the gaps in my memory, I do recall enjoying the time I spent working with Phaser. I hope to come back to it some day, as it seems fairly straightforward and useful for making simple HTML5 games.

Pixelgamemaker.com

I just found this randomly online, I think it seems pretty cool! Easy pixel art and intuitive attribute-based game mechanic programming. Very simple and potentially restrictive, but if you just want to make a cool pixel game on the web easily, this seems great, albeit somewhat buggy.
